First Quarter Music Update

It’s been a great first quarter of music class!

Second graders have been engaging their head voice for tuneful singing and matching the steady beat while listening to a piece of music. Students also enjoyed music stations where they had a chance to play digital keyboards, read some of their favorite Songtale books, practice simple rhythm writing, and discover notes on a staff.

Third and fourth graders have been playing the ukulele. Ukuleles are smaller and have fewer strings than the guitar, making them perfect for smaller hands. They also cost less than a guitar and are small and easy to carry. Each grade has been working on different skills, including proper ukulele posture, the difference between fingerpicking and strumming, and learning chords.

Be sure to mark your calendar for our winter concert on Thursday, December 19 at 10:00am. We look forward to sharing our hard work with you.

The mission of the Helena Public School Music Department is to create meaningful, memorable, and diverse musical experiences in a physically and emotionally safe environment that fosters artistic creativity.

9-23-19 Mid-Month Update From Mrs. Wilkins

Parents,

What a busy/wonderful month we have had!

This Thursday from 5:30-7:00 is our Warren Welcome Back BBQ. This is a free event for Warren students and their families, hosted by PTO. Please bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket. It should be a great opportunity for us all to get to know others in our Warren Wolverine community!

We are conducting a survey to gage interest/numbers for a before-school SACC program. Please complete this survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FY6C9H8 by this Friday (9/27) if morning child-care is something you would find beneficial. A reminder that we do not have coverage on the playground until 7:45.

Mr. Day is offering a FREE basketball league for 5th grade students starting October 21. Click the link (page 4) for more details. 5th grade parents, this will be sent home with your child next Monday.

Due to large amounts of food waste and feedback from parents regarding the lack of lunch consumed by their child, I have altered the K-2 seating during lunch. K-2 students are now intermixed (not sitting in grade-level teams) and are sitting at a designated “color” table. For seven minutes during K-2 lunch students are played music, stories, etc. to promote “quiet eating time.” Students are encouraged to meet up with their buddies from another classroom during recess. Our hope is that with these minor changes students will be able to focus on eating, so they can have a successful, engaging, and learning filled afternoon.

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday,

Mrs. Wilkins
